His practice is focused on all aspects of intellectual property, including licensing and transfer of a wide spectrum of technologies and pharmaceutical products, and related enforcement and prosecution of intellectual property, trade-marks, patents, copyright, intellectual property litigation, commercial litigation in front of all courts in Canada, and drug approval. He also practices in I.P. related business law, such as distribution and joint venture agreements. He is often involved in matters related to the Food & Drug Act and with Health Canada.

Mr. Barrette is a Fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada. He is also member of the Canadian Bar Association, the Association des praticiens du droit des marques et des modèles (APRAM), the Pharmaceutical Trademark Group (PTMG). He has been appointed to the Amicus Curiae for Canada of the International Trademark Association (INTA) and is also a member of the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and of the Association MARQUES. He is the president of the trademark committee of the Canadian group of the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI) since 2015. Mr. Barrette is an administrator of the Corporation de la Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours and of the Musée Marguerite-Bourgeoys since 2014.

Maître Mortimer Freiheit is acting as a counsel at Barrette Legal. Before joining Freiheit Legal, Mortimer Freiheit was a senior partner in the Montréal office of Stikeman Elliott, where he practiced in commercial litigation for over forty-three years. During that time, Maître Freiheit developed and led the commercial litigation, labor law and bankruptcy and restructuring practices, and also assisted in the development of the intellectual property litigation department. He led countless numbers of litigation teams to victory in a broad range of matters ranging from commercial disputes to director/officer/accountant liability to intellectual property rights.

He has also negotiated numerous complex, strategic and favorable settlements when in his clients’ best interests. In addition, he has successfully navigated and developed expertise in the multifaceted issues affecting cross-border disputes. He has been recognized year after year as one of the nation’s leading litigators in national publications, both peer and client-reviewed, for his preeminent skills and experience.

Having advised and represented major corporations, their directors and officers, as well as investment funds and their advisors and managers, Maître Freiheit has become a recognized authority in disputes involving financial institutions, individual lawsuits, as well as class actions.

He has also advised small and mid-size companies, their directors, officers and shareholders in resolving and/or litigating various disputes faced as their businesses grow. In particular, Mr. Freiheit has developed extensive experience in representing entrepreneurial corporations and their shareholders.

Ms. Mindy Louis-Pierre successfully completed her final internship at Barrette Legal Inc. and joined the team in 2014. She is recognized for her efficiency at work and her professionalism. Her main task is to assist lawyers with their work. She performs, among other tasks, filings, renewals and assignments of trademarks as well as the follow-up of all intellectual property files.

Ms. Louis-Pierre is also a Commissioners of Oaths in Quebec.
